2020.05.25 00:53 DaDefender Mascarillas y guantes: ¿moda o protección?

2020.03.22 18:12 TheUltimate721 The Hater's Guide to the Overwatch League (CORONAVIRUS EDITION!)

Since absolutely everything is getting canceled because of the Coronavirus we are left with little in terms of options for entertainment. Enter: eSports. eSports have been growing significantly over the past few years, and with physical sports all being killed off by the Coronavirus, they could very well make their way to mainstream television as large networks like ESPN try to fill in the gaps.
There are many different eSports leagues all for various videogames. But the one I'm choosing to do today is Overwatch League. My personal favorite and the one I am most passionate about.
If you choose to watch, they'll be streaming matches throughout the week on the Overwatch League Youtube Channel. You can check the schedule on the Overwatch League website. Fair warning, some of the matches start at like 3 or 4 AM. As of the making of this post there is two friendly matches scheduled for Sunday the 22nd at 1 PM PST (Between the San Francisco Shock and the Seoul Dynasty) and 2 PM PST (Between the LA Gladiators and the LA Valiant).

WHAT IS OVERWATCH:

Overwatch is a 6v6 hero based FPS game developed by Blizzard Entertainment. Every team consists of three different roles, two Damage or "DPS" heroes, two tank heroes, and two support or "healer" heroes. It's an awful lot like if you made a MOBA into an FPS game. Every hero has their own different weapons and abilities that are useful in all sorts of manners, including one "Ultimate" ability that must be charged up by damaging enemy players, or healing friendly players over the course of the match.
This is a list of all heroes in Overwatch. There's not hundreds of them like in League of Legends, so its not as overwhelming to get familiar with each hero. Plus, many of them have cinematic origin stories or animated shorts that are pretty cool to watch, even if you're not very familiar with the lore.
The best way to learn the game is to play it if you ask me (You can typically find it for less than $20 nowadays), but if you want to learn more about the game here it is:
In Overwatch, there are four major gametypes.
The first is "Control", where a capture point (Aka hard-point, if you're familiar with that) is unlocked after 30 seconds. A team gains control percentage by being in control of the point, and control can be gained by standing on the point uncontested (with no enemies on the point). The first team to reach 100% control will win the round and gain a point. The first to two points will win the map. These will typically done first in a competitive series or done as a tiebreaker.
The next is Payload. If you've played Team Fortress 2, you're likely to be very familiar with this as well. An attacking team must push the payload through 3 different checkpoints in a set amount of time in order to win the round. The defending team can halt the payload's progress by standing on/near the Payload. Once the round is finished (Either by the attacking team making it through all 3 points or the defending team using up all of the attacking time) the teams flip sides (attackers to defenders, defenders to attackers) and which ever team ends up pushing the payload farther wins the map.
The third type is Assault. A defending team is in control of one hard-point, and they must defend it from an attacking team. The attacking team must gain control percentage on the hard-point by standing on it uncontested until they reach 100% control with a limited amount of time. Once that happens, they score a point and a second hard-point is unlocked that they must capture and the defenders must defend. Once a round is finished (Either by the attacking team securing both points or the defending team using up all of the time on the clock) the teams flip sides. Which ever team ends up securing more hard-points (Or gains more capture percentage on them) will win the map.
The last type is hybrid, which combines both Assault and Payload. The first objective is an assault point, where a defending team must defend a hard-point and the attacking team must capture said point. When the attacking team takes control of the point, a payload is unlocked and the attacking team must push it through 2 more points in order to complete the round. Again, once the round is finished, both teams switch sides, and whichever team gains more progress will win the map.
Competitive Series in Overwatch nowadays are first to 3 map wins, though sometimes playoff matches and championships are played as first to 4.

WHAT IS THE OVERWATCH LEAGUE:

The Overwatch League is the officially sponsored pro circuit of the game. Unlike most other eSports which are owned by just a generic organization (i.e. Optic Gaming, FaZe Clan, etc.), Overwatch League teams are franchised out of cities. There are twenty teams currently for teams around the world. Those teams are split up into two conferences of ten, the Atlantic and Pacific Conference, and those conferences are split up into two divisions.
Those teams are: San Francisco Shock, Vancouver Titans, LA Gladiators, LA Valiant, Dallas Fuel, Seoul Dynasty, Shanghai Dragons, Hangzhou Spark, Chengdu Hunters, Guangzhou Charge, New York Excelsior, Toronto Defiant, London Spitfire, Paris Eternal, Boston Uprising, Philadelphia Fusion, Washington Justice, Houston Outlaws, Florida Mayhem, Atlanta Reign.
The teams play a 20+ week regular season schedule. There were matches set to take place in China and South Korea but those got derailed really early on due to the Coronavirus, so only about 5 or so weeks of the American scheduled matches have been played. Now the league has moved to an online format, with in person games hopefully to return whenever this all cools down.

BRIEF HISTORY:

The Overwatch League has played two seasons so far. The first champions of the Overwatch League were the London Spitfire, who won in the grand finals against the Philadelphia Fusion. The regular season of Season 1 was dominated by the New York Excelsior, with the Los Angeles Valiant and Boston Uprising being late bloomers.
Season 2 of the Overwatch League was won by the San Francisco Shock, who swept the Vancouver Titans in the Season 2 finals. The Shock actually ended up losing their first season playoffs match, but went undefeated in the losers bracket, never losing a single map (Point essentially) to any opponent after their first series loss, something that's unheard of in sports in general. Both the Titans and Shock were dominant throughout the regular season, and New York were still quite good too, but they were overshadowed by the others.

THE TEAMS

Pacific Conference
West Division:
San Francisco Shock: The Shock are the favorites to win the entire season this year and for good reason. They won it all last year and rolled back their entire roster. They have 3 players from Team USA that won Overwatch World Cup this year with big upsets over Team South Korea and Team China, Jay "Sinatraa" Won (Who won Overwatch League MVP and Overwatch World Cup MVP last season), Mathew "Super" DeLisi, and Grant "Moth" Espe. That's not even mentioning all their Korean talent too such as Striker, Architect, Choihyobin, Rascal. The players on their bench can probably beat a lot of teams starting rosters that's how good this team is. (Last year's finish: #1)
Vancouver Titans: A brief bit of history, the Titans picked up most of their roster from a highly successful and popular team in South Korea that was known as "Runaway" (Which still exists, but has been through multiple rosters in their lifetime), and these players been dominant since their introduction to the league in Season 2. With players such as Twilight, Haksal, JJanu and Slime. They added Jouneyman Main Tank Fissure and arguably the greatest Flex Support player to have played the game, Ryujehong. Expect them to be a force again this season. (Last year's finish: #2)
Los Angeles Gladiators: Always the bridesmaid, never the bride was the story with these guys. Because of that, they made some pretty big moves in free agency. They traded arguably their best DPS player Decay to the Dallas for Main Tank player OGE, they spent a large amount of money to buy Indy "Space" Halpern (Also from the World Cup-winning USA team) from their rivals, the LA Valiant, and signed veteran such as Birdiring (From the S1 London team) and LHCloudy to pair with their young and emerging talent such as Jaru and Mirror. They have a chance to be pretty good. (Also I feel obligated to mention this team is owned by Kroenke, fuck that guy) (Last year's finish: #5)
Los Angeles Valiant: On the other side of the LA spectrum we have the Valiant, who blew up their entire roster to go with a cheaper one this off-season. Gone are their mainstays such as Agilities, Kariv, Space and Custa. In are the new guard, Rick "Gig" Salazar, Caleb "McGravy" McGarvey, JeongWon "Lastro" Moon. Combine that with Jae Ho "Rain" Park, a guy who was being wasted away on Florida and possibly the most underrated acquisition of the offseason, British DPS extraordinaire Kai "KSP" Collins. They could shock people and be pretty okay, despite expectations early on that they'd be terrible. (Last year's finish: #13)
Dallas Fuel: The Dallas Fuel are lolcows. They started out season 1 bad, made a couple of moves and ended as a pretty good team despite being eliminated from contention for a playoff spot. They then signed a bunch of their players to long term deals in the offseason and most of those players ended up sucking ass in Season 2. They made a couple of changes going into season 3 but their core roster is mostly the same. Any optimism they have will come through Decay and Doha, their young DPS duo. They also brough up William "Crimzo" Hernandez from their academy team and he's pretty okay on support too. (Last year's finish: #15)
East Division:
Seoul Dynasty: Seoul ended up spending a bunch of money (Report are well over $1 million, which is a huge amount in the eSports industry) bringing on Profit (DPS) and Gesture (Tank) over from London. They also ended up bringing in BDosin and Tobi, who also happened to be London's old supports (though BDosin is much better than Tobi). It will be interesting to see where Gesture fits into their lineup because they already have a dynamic duo in Marve1 and Michelle, but the overall mechanical skill of Seoul is extremely high, even if they had to let go of two of their mainstays in the offseason in Fleta and Ryujehong (As well as giving up Glister from their academy team) to get Profit and Gesture. (Last year's finish: #8)
Shanghai Dragons: The Shanghai Dragons are an interesting team. They started off by going winless the entirety of Season 1 and then turned things around last year to become a respected team. Their strength is their damage players. DDing, Diem, Fleta, Lip, Diya, any combination of those players makes for an all-star DPS lineup. Their support line is pretty good too, consisting of Runaway superstar Leejaegon, Luffy, and Izayaki. Their tankline is where their questions are. Stand1, the only main tank player on their roster, comes from the LA Gladiators academy team (A rare Korean in North American Contenders), and Void comes over from the actual Gladiators team. Geguri is also there at offtank and is extremely popular among Shanghai fans (It might be because she is the only girl in Overwatch League? Who knows) (Last years finish: #10)
Hangzhou Spark: The Spark excelled in last year's meta, which was known as "GOATs", consisting of 3 tanks and 3 support characters. However, role lock was implemented since then, forcing teams to run 2 tanks, 2 damage, and 2 support, and Hangzhou struggled since then, namely because their damage players aren't very versatile... and they didn't really add much in the offseason either. (They were mainly relying on a player called Krystal to be their main player, but there was a whole fiasco last year where he went missing from the team in China and they ended up suing him for breach of contract. He's still listed officially on their team page but literally everyone knows he's not on the team anymore). Anyhow, their main stars are Chinese Maintank Extrodiare Guxue, aggressive main support in IDK, good flex support in Bebe and good hitscan in GodsB. (Last year's finish: #4)
Chengdu Hunters: The Hunters are known as masters of Chaos. They are the only all Chinese team and have a very specific playstyle and team composition that they tend to run no matter what the meta is and whether or not their playstyle will do well or not. That style is usually to run their main tank, Ameng, on Wrecking Ball, and try to maximize the value their damage players can get, and they've got 3 great dps players in Jinmu, Baconjack and Leave, as well as an amazing main support player in Yveltal. Are they gonna be good? Who the hell knows? I don't think anybody can tell with these guys. (Last year's finish: #12)
Guangzhou Charge: The charge are the most difficult team to read in the entire league because they had spells where they were dogshit terrible last season, and they finished the season 7-1 in dominant fashion (Though they really didn't play any good teams other than London and Seoul who they lost to). They are the only team to have players from all 4 major regions (China, Korea, North America and Europe). They have Nero, an American flex dps player, Neptuno, a main support player from Spain, Wya (Support) and Eileen (Damage) from China, and Happy, Rio, Cr0ng, Chara, and Shu from Korea. Happy absolutely destroyed their last several matches as Widowmaker and Eileen put up a strong showing at the World Cup for Team China as well. To answer the question of are they gonna be any good? I have no idea. (Last year's finish: #9)
Atlantic Conference:
North Division
New York Excelsior: The NYXL, as they are called have the highest win percentage of any team in this league's short history but are notorious for not doing much in the playoffs. Surprisingly they shook up a lot of their roster but kept most of their core players intact. They still have JJonak (Season 1 MVP), Anamo, Mano, Libero, and Nenne, but they added free agent talents in WhoRU and Hotba. Their support line and tank line are world-class, but the questions with them are their damage dealers. Nenne and Libero are alright, but they are lately going with the withered husk of a once Allstar in Sabeyolbe and the rawness of WhoRU. (This team is owned by the COO of the Mets, so you can scream LOLMETS whenever they do something stupid) (Last year's finish: #3)
London Spitfire: London Spitfire won Season 1 and rolled back their entire roster for Season 2, but went out pretty early in the playoffs. So what did they do? Blew up their entire roster of course. Gone are their mainstays like Profit, Gesture, Fury, and BDosin. In are the new guard in Glister, Bernar and JMac, all who were great players in the Tier 2 scene of Overwatch (Known as Overwatch Contenders). They also poached away New York's Coaching staff, so they could be okay as well. (Last year's finish: #7)
Paris Eternal: What do you get when you combine the best players France has to offer with young an emerging Korean talent? You'd probably get the Paris Eternal, who are looking pretty damn good right about now. Their headlining players are Soon, one of the best Widowmaker and Tracer players since his debut in Season 1 on the LA Valiant, Xzi who is by far and away the frontrunner for rookie of the year, Hanbin who is an off-tank player that's emerged with high-level play and FDGod who was hiding all his aggressive support talent in the European Contenders scene. (Last year's finish: #14)
Toronto Defiant: The Defiant are another lolcow because they always seem to be bad after showing a bit of promise to their fans no matter what they do. They spent big in the offseason, bringing over both Agilities and Kariv from the LA Valiant, getting Candian Hitscan player Lane "Surefour" Roberts, getting a bench player from the San Francisco Shock in Nevix, a washed-up support player in Kellex and trading for Beast from Philadelphia's Contenders team. (Last year's finish: #17)
Boston Uprising: Another Lolcow is Boston and I don't feel remotely bad for them because their General Manager, known as President of Gaming HuK, is kinda an asshole and this team is owned by Robert Kraft. Towards the end of Season 1, they pissed off one of the best coaches in the league, Crusty, who would go on to win the Championship with the Shock and have been generally known for letting great talent go to waste then walk in Free Agency for nothing. Now, however, they have 2 good players, the New Zeland originating Flex player known as Colourhex, and the rookie flex support player known as Myunbong, who was highly coveted going into this year, and the only reason Boston got him is because Huk threw a bunch of money at his contenders team (Whom he was still under contract with) and agreed to bring him on without even a trial. Also, they have a good meme in a player known as Jerry. That is all. (Last year's finish: #19)
South Division:
Philadelphia Fusion: Season 1's runner ups are looking really hot right now. Their big headlining players are Carpe (Perhaps the most mechanically skilled DPS player to have ever played the game), Funnyastro (Main support, formerly of Atlanta's Academy team), and Alarm (Who's finally eligible for Overwatch League after 3 years on Philly's Academy team). They also picked up Fury from London and Ivy from Toronto as well as other talented additions such as Heesu. For some reason they also picked up Chipsa, a British Streamer who's basically only known for having a good Doomfist? So that's interesting. Anyhow, Philly are really good right now and up there with the Shock and Titans among the top of the league at the current moment. (Last year's finish: #10)
Atlanta Reign: The Reign emerged from a bad spell towards the middle of the last season to become a top 6 team come playoffs time and even defeated the San Francisco Shock in the first round (Reference, this is also the last time the Shock lost a match). They have loads of talent up and down their roster. Erster, Edison, Babybay and SharP on damage. Pokpo, Gator, Hawk and FRD on tank. Dogman, Masaa, Fire and Kodak on support. There is not a player on this roster who is not a star or isn't at least above average on their role. Its kind of insane how stacked they are. (Last year's finish: #6)
Washington Justice: The Justice were bad. Like really bad for 3/4 of the last season. Mainly because their star damage players, Corey and Stratus, weren't that great in the GOATs meta. Since role lock was introduced and the meta shifted though, they've absolutely popped off, reaching incredible heights while doing so (The highest of which is sweeping the Titans towards the end of the regular season last year, the only other team to do so was the Shock in the grand finals). This year, they've made some talented additions such as Ellivote and Roar on tank and Aimgod on support to help them out (As well as Ark, a support player formerly of NYXL), but they haven't meshed well together yet, and have gotten really unlucky in a couple of specific circumstances, but don't be fooled, they have top tier talent and potential. (Last year's finish: #17)
Florida Mayhem: The Mayhem have historically been the Overwatch League's worst team but are actually looking okay as of late. They saw what Vancouver did last year, picking up Runaway players and decided "hey that's a good idea" and decided to do the same thing. Enter in coach Kuki (Who played in Season 1 for Seoul and the Valiant as a player) and Gangnamjin, another one of the highly coveted flex support players coming from Korea, and Yaki, a flex DPS player. Combine this with their existing talent in guys like Fate, Gargoyle, Sayaplayer, and they've got themselves a nice little roster there. (Last year's finish: #20)
Houston Outlaws: Despite some major free agent signings in guys like Blase, Hydration, Meko, Rapel and Jcese the Outlaws started off bad. Like really bad. They were trying to run what was then the meta even though their roster was notoriously horrible at it. Once they started playing to their players strengths and their own style though (which was never hard-countered by the current meta, the new meta was just considered more optimal) they started becoming really good, which has peaked in a sweep over the Paris Eternal in their most recent match. Their most notable player other than the free agent signings I listed above is Dante "Danteh" (Yeah I know) Cruz, a former Minecraft pro and Shock player. (Last year's finish: #16)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's to hoping all the matches go well and somehow Corona doesn't find another way to ruin this. Anyhow, as a parting gift, enjoy the silliness that are the pros shenanigans in Comms Check.

[Reiner] Details On An Unannounced Overwatch 2 Hero

New Feature – High Precision Mouse Input (Gameplay Option)
Hi everyone! I’m Derek, a gameplay engineer on Overwatch and wanted to run through this new feature in version 1.42, and exactly what it does and how it works.
First, a quick summary on how aiming and shooting happens in Overwatch. Overwatch simulates (or ticks) every 16 milliseconds, or at 62.5Hz. Each tick, we update the players aiming direction based on whatever raw inputs we’ve received from the mouse hardware since the previous tick. If the player has pressed primary fire, we then launch their shot in that direction (assuming they are alive, have ammo, aren’t in the middle of some other action, etc.)
Despite this being a conventional way of handling mouse input in a first-person shooter, we wanted to do better. Many gaming mice these days support 500Hz, 1000Hz or even more in terms of polling rates. At 1000Hz, this means the mouse movement done between game ticks can be done by as many as 16 discrete mouse movements delivered from the hardware. An example here may help.
Video
This is a simulated flick in Overwatch. By simulated I mean uniform mouse movement per mouse polling frame, which isn’t how humans move a mouse, but is helpful for purposes of explanation.
From above, here’s what it looks like:
Video
The white lines are where the player’s aim direction is pointing every 16ms.
Now we add in red lines, drawing where the player is aiming after every received mouse input @1000Hz:
Video
With the new High Precision option enabled, projectiles can now travel down any of the red lines! This means you can also functionally shoot between rendered frames (or at high fps, on rendered frames that are in between ticks):
Video
Some additional things worth noting:
This will not change how it “feels” to look around. Looking around will feel the same as it always has, since the final rendered view always took into account any and all raw input messages received from hardware prior to that frame.
Enabling this option does come with a small CPU cost overhead.
Subframe aiming only takes place when a mouse button is either going down or up, and only when using primary or secondary fire. Ie: Holding down primary fire for tracking type weapons will not have any changes to how it behaves.
We hope you enjoy this new feature! We’re always reading and looking for feedback, so please let us know what you think!

The 2020 season will introduce an evolution of the two-way player contract to incorporate player and team feedback from the 2019 season. Any player on the roster may agree to be eligible for Contenders play, but a maximum of four players may be designated as “two-way” players at any given time.

2019.09.10 06:28 theodoreroberts Propose to change/fix the format of our OWL pots-match discussion thread

Just read this first:

Take a look at the format of our post match threads and LoL's post match thread. Ours is just final score and highlight link while the LoL threads have basic info for each maps, players, and links to more important info. Our threads seem really bare-bone and poorly made.
I want to propose a change to our post-match thread. I tried to copy a bit from LoL thread and fix it so it is more Overwatch-y, while providing enough information for the readers.
Ok here is my idea of a post match thread (I am using the last recent match ATL vs. NYE). Please give me your opinion on this format.

Hey there, we found a bug that causes very long queue times for a specific set of users. We have a fix internally and we're working on rolling it out as a server side fix today. Sorry for this one.

Iran - Can’t join any games after latest update
Hey folks, we’ve researched this issue and believe the problem is due to packet filtering or connectivity between customer ISPs in Iran and Amazon AWS. Overwatch leverages Amazon AWS infrastructure in Europe region when necessary, this is usually during new content updates.
In addition to having reported the issue here, we recommend players report this issue directly to their ISP support as well.

Hey there, our PS4 community is going strong! Taking a quick peak at our matchmaking data it looks like the average queue time for PS4 players in the past week fluctuates between about 60 to 80 seconds.

Hey folks we had a server issue that caused this to happen for some players. We’ve resolved the issues and we’re monitoring to watch for any additional issues.

Workshop Stats - 5/30/19
Wow, the response to the Workshop has been overwhelming. You all are creating some amazing content!
We just got some stats that I figured you’d all be interested in.
Thanks so much for all of this great content!
First off, here are the NA/EU Charts:
From our Global Insights group:
"In NA, someone has managed to recreate UNO, the card game. Surprisingly, it has the most hours played out of any link. This may be a result of consolidation; there is only 1 version of UNO floating around, but hundreds of accuracy trainer variations.
Workshop has been extremely well received in KR; the most popular game mode in KR has a total of 5667 hours played so far, more than 4x the top link in NA. It is called “High Blood Pressure Marathon” (혈압마라톤) which is a mode with no cooldowns, infinite ultimates, and some other crazy things mixed in."
And here are the KR top charts (forgive any localization issues or typos here):

If the patch is replacing old stuff, is it worth deleting and redone loading completely?
Hey there, no need to do that, though you can if you want. The Blizzard Desktop App will automatically clean up files to save you space when it can. Cheers!
Why are OW's patches so large?
Hey there, occasionally we do a "remaster" release which is necessary for console but also helps reduce wasted space for PC players as well. Because we know these releases will be large downloads we also tend to fix bugs in core assets that, when touched, require downloading the entire asset again.
We know these have an impact on folks with limited data and we try to limit the need for these as much as possible. Apologies for any hassle.
Cheers
But you could've let us pre load the update if you knew it was gonna be 24 gigs on console.
From what I understand we're unable to do any pre-load on Console because we publish through the 1st Party systems. I'll check with our console producer to be sure, it's something I'd love to do if it was possible.
So… Did the servers just crashed?

I think the Paris lighting should be reverted back to how it was before
Hey there, the lighting on PTR is a bug and will be fixed before the patch is live. Cheers!
Please confirm this about rendering device
Render Device Lost is a bit misunderstood, it’s the error we show when you hit a graphics driver error, more specifically during TDR.
Over the life time of Overwatch we’ve seen several different causes for this to occur. These range from bad hardware, driver updates during game play (can be in the background from a windows update without the user knowing it was happening), overclocked hardware, driver bugs, and our bugs... and that’s just a short list.
Right now we’re not aware of any bugs (in OW or in drivers) that are causing problems. Most recently users with RTX cards had some stability issues which were resolved with driver and windows updates.
Our general advice for users hitting this is to update drivers, update windows, if you’re overclocked remove it temporarily to see if that helps, and finally check windows event viewer for more details which could help identify the issue.
Hope this helps, sorry you’re hitting stability problems. Cheers.
PTR wont launch
Thanks for contributing additional information to assist us. There is a new PTR update that potentially corrects this issue. Please let us know if you still experience these problems.

Video Baptiste Origin Story

Im afraid that people will laugh at my voice
Communication is key, especially in Competitive. If haters harass you because of the sound of your voice then they’re sabotaging their chances to achieve victory in the match. If you’re constructively communicating your heart is in the right place. You’re being competitive.
At one point we all had the squeak or teenage voice fluctuations. Stay the course and speak your mind; if they’re trying to bring you down they’re already below you.

Video Developer Update Introducing Baptiste

[Mo & Meii] Principal Overwatch Designer Ensures Baptiste Will Be a Counter for GOATS Composition

Video BAPTISTE INTERVIEW - Jeff Talks New Hero Meta! Stylosa

1.34 Known Issues

These patch notes
Hey there!
Armor used to have a varying effect on damage over time and beam type weapons based on how damage instances were handled by the server (it’s not the server tick rate, some weapons have different update rates).
This meant that Winston’s primary fire would hit the maximum 50% damage reduction against armor because it had a faster damage update rate while Zarya’s beam would lose a flat 15 damage per second (after the armor change from -5 damage per hit to -3).
So the general results after this patch are Winston’s damage is increased against armor compared to before, Moira is about the same, Zarya and Symmetra are roughly the same at low charge and deal less damage to armor health pools than before while at high charge.
[Forum Suggestion] ‘Set as Main Profile’ Option
We have not forgotten this, promise!
Symmetra ptr nerfs?
Hi, hopefully I can clear some of the number stuff up. Symmetra does 65/130/195 damage per second at each respective charge level against non-armored health pools.
Against the original armor calculation (-5 dmg per hit) this got a flat 25 DPS reduction and a 15 DPS reduction after the armor changes to -3 per hit.
So with this current PTR patch, at level 1 charge you gain +2 DPS versus armor, at level 3 you lose 24 DPS compared to before (now 156, previously 180).
This ends up being a difference of about .17 seconds in time to kill 200 armor health. We’ll see if this ends up being significant or not and go from there. I will say there wasn’t any specific intent to reduce Symmetra’s power.
This was never in any patch notes. When was it changed from 60/120/180 ?
The primary fire damage rate has been at this value since her rework.
I just checked the rework forum post though and it does have the incorrect 60/120/180 values. Sorry we didn’t catch that!

Quickplay and Comp Disabled on PTR?
We’re testing some under the hood changes on the PTR that affect the matchmaker. These changes are only enabled in the Arcade. We needed to put load on Arcade modes to load the matchmaker.
Quick Play will be up soon. In the meantime, you can join a custom game.
Thanks for your patience.
Baptiste Timeline Discrepancy *ANSWERED*

Video Overwatch Jeff Interview - Role Queue and The Future Unit Lost

Rialto Overwatch Bug
Fixed. Should be in soon.
PTR Hero Changes Update
We’re looking at updating the PTR soon with the following additional hero changes:

Junkrat

  • Frag Launcher: Impact damage increased from 40 to 60

Lucio

  • Speed Song: Effect lowered from 30% to 20%
  • Amp it up: Speed song amped effect reduced from 70% to 50%
  • Wall Ride: Passive movement speed gained while wall riding increased from 20% to 40%.

Mccree

  • Bonus damage ramp from the previous 1.34 change will now begin after 1.5s, down from 2.5.

Reaper

  • Passive: Healing amount reduced from 50% to 40%

Symmetra

  • Photon Projector: Primary fire damage ramp speed increased by 20%

Zarya

  • Particle Cannon: Alternate fire radius reduced from 2-3 to 1-2 (based on energy level)

Zenyatta

  • Orb of Discord: Effect reduced from 30% to 25%
  • Orb of Destruction: Damage increased from 46 to 48
I’m not sure exactly when these changes will hit PTR, but we’re hoping tomorrow or Friday.
Knockback Observations as requested by Jeff
Hi everyone!
I’d like to clarify a few points and give some more details on exactly what the new knockback behavior changes.
Previously, knockbacks generally worked as a simple impulse. This is what caused characters to fly away faster if they were moving away, or much less far at the time of the knockback if they were moving towards the knockback. In the new system, the movement pre-knockback doesn’t matter, but only in the direction of the knockback. Any movement that is not either into or away from the knockback is not affected.
What didn’t change is the ability to fight back against the knockback. Once knocked back, you still have the ability to accelerate back towards where you came from.
Rough knockback distance equivalents:
PTR: Moving into or away from knockback, or stationary
Live: Stationary
PTR: Moving into or away from knockback, or stationary, immediately accelerate into the knockback when hit
Live: Stationary, immediately accelerate into the knockback when hit
Additionally, D.Va using Boosters and Mercy in Valkyrie are currently the only “flying” modes we have, nothing has changed with regards to how Pharah or jumping heroes behave in the air.
WHY IS IT CALLED LIKE THAT !!! IS THAT A NAME CHANGE ???
Oops, sorry. This is an internal name we use (almost everything has a different internal name). Fixed!
Yeah the Lucio wall ride just appeared.
Yep, sorry I forgot this note! This change sets his wall-speed to roughly as it was before the speed song nerf, but its actually a decent buff because it affects you while you’re in heal song as well.
How does this change affect Doomfist, specifically his Seismic Slam?
There’s currently an issue causing Seismic Slam to not pull people in quite like they’re supposed to. A fix for it is in the works.
This one seems a bit crazy. Any hot takes?
The McCree Deadeye change makes it more effective against targets with HP higher than 250. It reaches 500 damage at about 2 seconds now (it used to take 2.4 seconds).
For Junkrat, does this mean he now does 140 damage per grenade?
Yep, Junkrat now does 140 damage per direct hit. Impact is 60, explosion is still 80.
Can you guys elaborate the unit of measurement for this? Surely not in meters of length?
This is in-game “meters”. For comparison, Junkrat explosions have a 2m radius.

Role Queue Compromise
Thanks for the suggestion! It’s actually one we’ve debated on the team. One concern we have is anytime we – the OW team – make assumptions about what you want to do without giving you some agency in the situation. Our concern is, we believe there are a number of players who want to or like to play different roles but because they are thinking of “the good of the team”, they flex to needed roles. A player like this, under your design suggestion, is going to end up always having to play tank or support. We really want to avoid design solutions that further reinforce players being forced to play roles they don’t intend to.
I hope this explanation makes sense. To use myself as an example, by your suggestion, I am a “tank main” because most of my play time is on tanks. But I really love playing healers and damage heroes as well. I would be worried if the game just assumed I should be playing tank all the time, because I did it so much previously (mostly to be a good teammate, not because that’s what I wanted to do).
Hope that makes sense.
Jeff, just wondering does the Overwatch team have any Symmetra Mains?
regarding symmetra main question… our live ops producer has 700 hours on her.
Regarding the role queue, have you and your team considered separate role SRs (similar to say, Splatoon 2’s separate ranks for modes) or do you intend to keep us to 1 SR per account?
if we did role queue, we would do separate SR’s. this is one of the things i think would be really fun (plus make the game way more balanced and improve matchmaking)

Seeing new Developers posting on the forums is WONDERFUL!
Hello, happy to be here!
I just recently got a forum account though I don’t actually have much time to post here. I will try to clarify changes when I can.
I suppose nobody knows who I am, but I joined the design team last year. I’ve mostly been working on hero prototypes and balance patches with Geoff and the rest of the design team.
Thank you all for your feedback, every voice matters.
Was sym not being included in the recent patch notes an accident?
Yes it was an accident, it’ll be there in the next updated patch notes.
If you don’t mind me asking, how does prototyping work?
It’s both! Often times our artists make amazing concept characters where we feel compelled to absolutely make that a hero and figure out a gameplay kit for it.
Other times we can start with a mechanic we want to see in the game or a role that needs to be filled and figure out a character fantasy centered around that.
Sometimes there are just cool ideas left over from old iterations of a hero prototype that we eventually want to work into a new hero as well.
If you destroy a hacked Baptiste Drone it activates again before it vanishes
Just fixed this one, thanks for the report!

The Caribbean Coalition was started in response to the Omnic Crisis, but continued to exist afterwards as the region’s peacekeeping force. (Which is when Baptiste joins.)

This particular glitch is still replicable. Blizzard pls fix
Correct, it’s in the patch on Thursday.
Is PS4 OW down for anybody else?
Hey there we had a problem that would result in increased LC-202 which we just resolved. Let me know if you’re still hitting issues, and if so what specifically you’re encountering.
Thanks and sorry for the hassle. Cheers

EU second class citizens again
Hey there, sorry for the login queue today. As of now we’re all clear, but we know the disruption when you’re ready to jump in and play is frustrating.
One challenge we encounter supporting a global game is finding a perfect patch time. At any given time some regions are busier than others. The reason we patch during Americas business hours is to make sure we have all the proper support staff here at Blizzard HQ to help if we encounter any issues. Unfortunately that means we land during a busier time for EU players.
Making the patch process smoother, and hopefully queue free for all regions, is a high priority for us. The problems we face on patch days can be complex, but I promise we’ll keep doing our best to fix the issues.
Cheers
Chat is broken
Hey folks we fixed this up on the server side, apologies for the hassle.
Blizzard, there's an issue with the new achievement sprays that needs to be addressed.
Hey there we have a fix in testing for this. When we make the fix anyone who has met the criteria for the achievement will get the reward, you will not have to do the achievement criteria again.
Sorry for this bug! Cheers.

Friday

I don’t really see why Winston needs to be better against armor.
The armor change I am referring looks like it isn’t going to make this next patch, so it will probably the patch after.
Those particular changes won’t be massive, but right now all “channeled” effects (Zarya, Symmetra, Moira, Winston, etc) are reduced by a flat amount like any other source of damage, but the size of the damage packets is purely based on how fast they tick, even though the tuning of the weapons are done via a general DPS calculation. For example, Winston’s tesla cannon was initially tuned way back when to have a faster update rate because it felt a lot better to use that way. However, currently that also means he does a lot less damage to armor.
We’re getting some new tech which allows us to separate armor reduction amounts for these effects from their update rate. This doesn’t mean we’re going to just go through and buff all of these weapons necessarily but we are going to go through them all and make sure we’re happy with how much damage they are all doing to armored targets.
But if Reaper gets nerfed (and it seems like people want that to happen) would you and your team change ShadowStep?
We still may do something with Shadow step in the future, but its not likely to suddenly become something you can do in combat like Tracer’s blink.
It’s meant to be a way to sneak behind enemy lines to drop on them or otherwise ambush them. In the past we’ve buffed it towards further reinforcing this direction like increasing its range and reducing its sound range.
Will this result in a net damage buff against non armored targets/enemies too?
No this only affects how much armor reduces these weapons.
